Yuletide - Here's My Letter
Nov. 14th, 2009 01:15 pm![[personal profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
Well I went and signed up for Yuletide again this year. I was back and forth on it, but I enjoyed the experience last year (even if my story was only read by three people) so thought I'd give it another go. The three fandoms I requested were Alex Rider – Yassen/Alex (no surprise there), Lord John Grey – George Everett/John Grey, and The Baker – Milo/Bjorn.
My love for Alex and Yassen has already been well established – I have
annephoenix and
kennahijja to thank for that. I read the Lord John Grey series this year and really enjoyed it. The Baker I found because of Damian Lewis (Yassen) being the star. What a gem of a movie. It has to be the funniest movie I’ve ever seen.
As a writer, I appreciate having a Yuletide likes/dislikes post for my recipient, so I thought I'd post one of my own in case it helps. Also, I’m sorry if you’re not on my flist and can’t see the posts. Unfortunately, I had to lock everything up after receiving a C&D for one of my Alex Rider stories posted on a comm. I didn’t want to take a chance of having my Livejournal suspended, so everything is locked now. I have some open fics on the
flash_rider comm and also a story posted on the
spy_fest comm if you’re interested in seeing what I like as far as Alex Rider stories are concerned.
1) So I tried to give an idea of what I’m interested in plot wise in the three fandoms I requested, but I also hate to be too specific, only because I like to give a writer freedom to use their imagination. Most times, writers think of so many cool things that I could never come up with. I don't care about length - short, long - it's just nice to get a story in any of the fandoms I requested.
2) I like slash (explicit or implied), PWP, but also understand that in the Alex Rider series, Alex is only 14. So if you're inclined to write slash, I don't mind the underage thing, but I also don't mind moving the years along and making Alex older. And I don't mind dark (actually, I love dark fics) or kinky – I love handcuffs, blindfolds, bondage, hairpulling – and just about any of the different ‘plays’ (breath, knife, blood, etc.). I’m pretty open to whatever fits with what you come up with plot wise.
3) I don't like silly fluff or cracky stuff much, but can appreciate it if it is done well. And with the Baker being a comedy, I would certainly find it acceptable there, so I say go for it in that case. I don’t think I’d care for it much in Alex Rider or LJG.
4) Please, please, please - I really don't like het, at all, but with the characters and fandoms I requested, I can’t see that being a problem.
Thank you so much for doing this. I hope you have fun writing, which is the whole point. Write what makes you feel comfortable. I don't have to have slash to enjoy it, believe me.
And in case you don’t want to have to go searching for the request, I included it here too.
RequestFandomChar1: Alex Rider/Yassen Gregorovich
RequestDetail1: My only plea would be no het and no Sabina as a romantic interest; Sabina as a friend is okay tho. I don't mind slash, although straight forward interaction between these two characters is fine. Just no silly fluff or crack, and you can ignore Eagle Strike if need be. So for possible scenarios, if you want: 1) MI6 gets a tip on Yassen’s location and next job – a hit on Alex. 2) Yassen finds out an assassin for a rival group (maybe the Chinese that Alex crossed in Skeleton Key?) has a hit out on Alex. 3) MI6 has a witness against Scorpia in protective custody disappear, and the agents protecting him are found dead – the witness is Yassen, who shows up on Alex’s doorstep.
RequestFandom2: Diana Gabaldon - Lord John Grey series
RequestFandomChar2: George Everett/John Grey
RequestDetail2: I'd like to know what their sexual encounter might have been like or what brought them together in the first place. There's only hints of it in Hellfire and it made me wonder how they would have found each other, given the times. Please, no het of any kind - probably doesn't need to be said for this fandom, but just in case, may as well be specific. I don't mind explicit slash, I don't mind dark fics either. I don't care for fluff at all in this fandom.
RequestFandom3: The Baker
RequestFandomChar3: Bjorn/Milo Shakespeare
RequestDetail3: I'm wondering what happened in Amsterdam to make Bjorn crush on Milo the way he does. I like slash, but it doesn't have to be explicit. It could be something 'real' that happened between them, or something that just causes Bjorn to think Milo likes him. Or, any other 'mission' where they might run into each other pre-Baker. It can be serious or funny, since the movie was a comedy - whatever you feel like writing. Please, no het of any kind.
My love for Alex and Yassen has already been well established – I have

Date: 2009-11-14 08:01 pm (UTC)Lord John Grey is a spin off book series from the Outlander. The main character, LJG is homosexual, and it takes place in a time when a person could be put to death for homosexual acts.
And the Baker is a British movie staring Damian Lewis (have you ever seen the TV show Life or Band of Brothers?). He's Milo. He and the Bjorn character are hitmen in the movie, but it's a comedy and is the funniest movie I've ever seen. I had to buy the DVD from the UK though because it isn't available in the States.
I hope you enjoy Yuletide. I did it last year for the first time and really enjoyed writing for it. It's a different experience and the way they have the matching set up surprised me when I first saw it, but it worked out well.

Date: 2009-11-14 09:46 pm (UTC)Is there a fandom for The Baker (other than you and me, obviously)? I keep trying to get people into the film but it's so hard when its not out on R1 yet. (I have 2 R2 copies --one from Hungary!)

Date: 2009-11-14 10:11 pm (UTC)I just checked the Yuletide list and it shows two offers to write and two requests (one of which has to be mine) for the Baker. I was so shocked to see it on the list this year. I've never seen any fanfic for it, so maybe Yuletide will generate two stories ;-)
It's too bad there isn't an R1 DVD for it. All our players are hacked so I don't even think twice about buying DVDs with other region codes. My husband watched the Baker with me and loved it too, although he's not a slasher as all.

Date: 2009-11-15 12:25 am (UTC)I have 2 hacked dvd players so same thing here. Amazon.co.uk is my friend. And when the film first came out, it was only out in Hungary so someone from the official DL Yahoo group found a seller who would send it to the US. It cost all of $20. I just got the R2 one cos it had some extras. My parents have seen the film and loved it.
